WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut state employee whose guns were seized after he allegedly made threatening comments to co-workers has been released on bail.

The Hartford Court reports that 64-year-old John Hirschfeld was released on $100,000 bond on Wednesday, but ordered to stay away from state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection headquarters. He was also subjected to GPS monitoring and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Police last month seized several weapons from his West Hartford home, including an AR-15 rifle that under state law met the definition of a banned assault weapon.

Other agency employees allege he said things such as “You better watch out” while talking about his guns.

Hirschfeld’s lawyer says her client made no direct threats.

Hirschfeld, an environmental analyst, is on paid administrative leave.
