State House approves ban on styrofoam containers


Lawmakers in Hartford are taking up a statewide ban on styrofoam containers. 

The state House of Representatives passed the ban by a 121-23 vote on Tuesday afternoon.

The bill, that was narrowed down to caterers and restaurants, would take effect July 1, 2021.

There are exceptions for pre-packaged food, raw meat, and seafood.

The plan now heads to the Senate.
