MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) – Another state police K-9 will be getting a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s.
State Police say K-9 Kato will get the vest that cost $65,825 and paid for through an on-line fundraiser. Kato is assigned to Trooper First Class Darren Connolly and is working out of Troop H in Hartford. Kato, a five year old German Shepard, is trained in tracking, building searches, evidence recovery, apprehension, obstacles and obedience,
The on-line fundraising site “help Officer Hickey vest K9s.” donated the funds to pay for the vest. Officer Matt Hickey is from Marietta Ohio and the fundraising sight was set up to help him keep his K-9 partner Ajax in his retirement and he was able to purchase Ajax for one dollar & remaining money was donated to purchase the vest for Kato.
