State’s attorney calls Ethan Song’s death a tragic accident

New information has been released following the death of 15-year-old Ethan Song.

According to the state’s attorney, Song’s death was a “tragic event” after he accidentally shot himself.

In January, Song died after being struck in the head at 104 Seaside Avenue in Guilford. Song did not live at the residence and he was not related to the gun owner.

Officials said it appeared that three weapons inside the home had been stored in a box inside of a large container in a closet. The guns were secured with a gun lock, but the keys to that lock were also in the box.

The investigation determined that Song and another teen gained access to the guns on several occasions.

However, because the guns were locked and stored, the gun owner is not facing charges.
