MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Officials across the state are warning families to be prepared for a mix of things throughout the day.

News 8 was right along Bayshore Drive in Milford. For people familiar with this area, it is often prone to flooding anytime there’s rain. But when you add heavy rain and strong winds, it makes matters much worse. We’re already seeing power outages across the state.

United Illuminating and Eversource are monitoring the storm closely. Keep in mind that as we go through the day conditions are expected to intensify and that may make it difficult for crews to fix an issue, especially with those high winds.Related: Major coastal storm causing power outages across the state

Officials are reminding people to keep safety in mind if you do lose power.

“We know we’re expecting some strong winds in conjunction with flooding. Having a prepared generator ready, but operating that generator safely outside and away from the home and making sure you have functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detectors working inside your residence,” said Battalion Chief Anthony Fabrizi, Milford Fire Dept.

Of course with all this rain, basement flooding is certainly a concern. Some hardware stores seeing a number of people coming in to buy sump pumps to avoid all that.

Officials remind people to pick up any lose items on their property so it doesn’t float away. Many cities and towns have been picking up debris from nearby storm drains, which will hopefully help with flooding issues.
