Amateur radio operators will put their skills to the test on Thursday.

Hams from all along the East Coast will practice sending messages during a simulated hurricane

Hurricane season begins a week from Saturday. Ham radio is often the only form of communication when a hurricane strikes because they can be operated without commercial power.
