Facebook unveils new birthday story feature with free cupcakes on Friday

(WTNH) — Birthdays are about celebrating people and in tradition, sharing birthday wishes on that day to loved ones.

Greetings have now evolved from birthday cards to messages across social media. Platforms like Facebook allow people to connect and not miss a friend’s important day, making it easier to be able to send messages, posts and comments.

Today, Facebook has unveiled Birthday Stories to help make these greetings even more personal and creative.

Users worldwide can now create a picture or short video to customize and add to a friend or family member’s story. The story feature appears as a tile that can be clicked on within Facebook app’s home screen. Much like posts on a profile page, the story is only shown to the audience that the user has set privacy settings to. Remember: much like an Instagram Story, the user can swipe up to learn details about who watched their Story.

The social media platform is bringing the celebration to the local community and has selected 50 bakeries from across the United States to give away free cupcakes, kicking-off the launch of the new feature.

In Connecticut, Sugar Bakery located at 424 Main Street in East Haven will be taking part of the festivities. Stop in, learn about the new feature and receive a free cupcake beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 10th. Out-of-state? Check the list here to see where you can find your local participating bakery. One cupcake per person while supplies last.
