A group of UConn engineering students are hoping the future of putting out fires by using drones. they’ve developed a drone that can find a fire and put it out on its own.
The gadgets use thermal imaging to locate the flames.
Ryan Heilemann, a UConn engineering student said, “You know a general location of the fire, you put that in, the drone would go alone, and once its there it starts using that thermal camera to search for the fire, and once it finds the fire it releases the payload and then returns home.”
The UConn engineering students got a little help on the projects from Sikorsky too. The Stratford-based company sponsors them every year.
