Tips to Feel More Peaceful At Work with Dr. Donna Hamilton

News

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Are you bringing extra stress to work with you? Donna L. Hamilton, MD, MS, or America’s Wellbeing Doctor, shares tips to feel more peaceful in the workplace.

In her book “Wellness Your Way,” Dr. Donna Hamilton encourages everyone to take a holistic approach to mental and physical health. “Being healthy is about your life, it’s not just about not being sick,” said Dr. Hamilton.

  1. Take care of your body and mind: Put your thoughts and emotions in a positive place. Focus on the things which make you feel safe, in control, or that bring you joy.  Doing stress relieving physical activities or something that makes you laugh can also can help.
  2. Don’t let current events hijack your spirit: You still can maintain an inner sense of peace and calm by remembering your purpose, and how being at work helps fulfill it.  For example, looking at pictures of children, family or friends and think about what they need.
  3. Have an action plan to feel in control of circumstances: Stress leads to the feeling of a loss of control, fear or anger. Some helpful ways to feel more in control are to know and understand your surroundings. Find where the exits in a building are and have a work friend you can count on in a pinch.
