BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — The Bristol Police Department posthumously promoted the two police officers who were shot and killed in the line of duty last week.
Dustin DeMonte, a 10-year veteran of the department, was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant, and Alex Hamzy, an 8-year veteran of the department, was promoted from officer to sergeant.
DeMonte, 35, and Hamzy, 34, were fatally shot on Oct. 12, while responding to a 911 call about a possible domestic violence situation between two brothers.
A third officer, Officer Alec Iurato, 26, was wounded in the shooting.
A ceremonious promotion for each officer took place during their joint funeral on Friday.
