Two shot at New Haven restaurant, detectives investigating for suspect

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven Police are searching for a shooter after gunfire erupted, striking two individuals, at K-2 Fine Asian Cuisine Restaurant early Sunday morning.

At 1:42 a.m., officers rushed to the restaurant at 27 Temple Street after reports were made of a person shot inside. When officers arrived, they witnessed hundreds of people in the street, most running from the establishment that police say was operating as a nightclub. Officers located the victim, a 26-year-old New Haven man. He’d been shot in his thigh and foot.

Police officers outside searched for witnesses. Inside, officers saw employees moping the floor and made them stop. The restaurant’s owner, Hue Lin, told police she knew a fight had erupted outside but claimed to not know anything of a shooting. Officers then located ballistic evidence inside. Restaurant employees continued denying the shooting took place inside despite witness’ claims to the contrary, according to police.

Lin told police she’d rented a space in the restaurant to someone throwing a birthday party. This party came with an admission fee and hired bouncers. Officers described seeing several hundred people there.

Sometime later, a 27-year-old female of New Haven, was dropped off by a relative at Yale New Haven Hospital. She claimed she had been at K-2 Fine Asian Cuisine when she was shot. She suffered a minor graze wound to her right calf. She said she was standing near the DJ booth when she heard gunfire, and she dropped to the floor and made her escape, according to police.

Neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are interested in speaking with anyone who has information as to the shooter’s identity or who witnessed the crime. Detectives can be reached by calling 203-946-6304.
