U.S. Senator Blumenthal announces the Ashanti Alert Act

At 11 a.m. on Monday in Hartford, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and State Rep. Pat Billie Miller will announce the Ashanti Alert Act, a bill that will create a new federal alert system similar to an Amber or Silver alert for missing adults ages 18-64.

The announcement will take place at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

The Ashanti Alert will notify the public about missing or endangered adults through radio and television broadcast systems to help law enforcement.

In September, the House of Representatives unanimously passed its version of the Ashanti Alert Act.

Senator Blumenthal and Rep. Miller will urge the House to pass the revised Senate bill before the end of the year.

The Ashanti Alert Act is named after Ashanti Billie, cousin of Rep. Miller, who was abducted in Virginia in 2017 when she was 19-years-old.

Her body was discovered in North Carolina 11 days after she was reported missing.
