U.S. Senator Blumenthal introduces ROBOCOP Act to combat robocalls

News

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal is taking a stand against robocalls.

The senator is proposing a number of things, including increasing the fines for robocalls. He is also calling for cellphone companies to provide free apps to costumers to block robocalls

“Robocalls are the number one complaint to my office. Why, because everyone receives them,” said Blumenthal.

These measures would not apply to public service robocalls, such as the ones you get from your local government during emergencies.

Blumenthal introduced the act in Hartford at 11 a.m.

Robocalls are now the top consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. More than 26 billion robocalls were made last year.
