Victim identified in Webster Bank Arena crash


The victim who crashed into the Webster Bank Arena on Thanksgiving has been identified. 

According to the City of Bridgeport, the victim is 31-year-old Wagner Mendez of Stamford.

Investigators say Mendez was traveling at a high rate of speed on Main Street in Bridgeport when he lost control and struck the front of the arena.

Police extricated Mendez from his car and transported him to Bridgeport Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 

No events were scheduled at the venue on Thanksgiving. As a result, nobody else was hurt. 

Bridgeport police continue to investigate.
