WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– The Wallingford police department is currently investigating a swatting incident from Tuesday afternoon.
Police tell News 8 that they received a call on the routine call line shortly before 4:30 from a man who said he shot and killed a woman inside the home and had two relatives of the woman tied up. The man hung up a short time later.
Numerous officers were then sent to a home on Ward Street and set up a perimeter of the two family home. Officers contacted the family on the second floor apartment, and all three people inside evacuate safely.
Officers then spoke with the resident of the first floor apartment, who was not home at the time. Police say the resident came to the scene to help officers in their investigation.
According to police, after all the residents were interviewed by the responding officers, it was believed the call was likely a hoax, and no one inside made the call.
Officers entered the home to confirm there was no criminal activity and no lives were in danger. The officers cleared the scene shortly before 6.
Police are working to identify the caller. If you have any information on this incident, you are asked to call the Wallingford police department at 203-294-2856.
