West Haven arsonist in custody, residents feel at ease

An arsonist is off the streets in West Haven.

Police say 38-year-old Patrick Savino is now in custody for lighting four fires at the Savin Rock strip mall over the course of four months.

He faced the judge on Friday.

After months on edge, the neighborhood residents finally feel at ease.

Jakoda Jones of Jakoda Baber Shop said, “Now we feel safe, clients feel safe, everybody feels safe and we still doing business.”

“Obviously we feel comfortable and relieved for the citizens in that area,” said West Haven Fire Marshal Keith Flood. “And we want people to rest assured, you know, that we feel we have the individual that was responsible.”

Savino was ordered to undergo mental health and drug screenings before his next court date on May 8.
