WINDHAM, Conn. (WTNH) — On Friday, the Town of Windham alerted the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) that it will be reverting to Phase 2 levels of reopening for the immediate future.

This comes one day after Governor Ned Lamont listed Windham as one of 11 towns and cities around the state that were falling under the Red Alert for COVID cases in the state. A Red Alert is for municipalities that have a two week average daily COVID-19 case rate higher than 15 per 100,000 population.

Moving back to Phase 2 means the town will lose the increased capacity for indoor dining, hair salons and more that were included in Phase 3.

Earlier in the day, Windham Public School announced the district would be temporarily moving from hybrid to full virtual learning for the rest of October due to coronavirus concerns.

The district will start conduct virtual learning from Monday, Oct. 19 to Friday, Oct. 30. The school schedule and flex days will remain the same.

All school-based clubs and teams will not meet during this virtual learning period. The only exception is an SAT make up test being offered to nine Windham High School seniors on Oct. 27.

All schools will be open for grab and go breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

School officials will determine the district’s next steps on Oct. 29.
