Windsor Locks PD: Wanted man arrested after avoiding several court appearances

Windsor Locks PD arrested a Torrington man in a hotel Monday evening after he was found allegedly avoiding past court appearances and possessing narcotics & illegal weapons.

Police said Joel Griffiths, 43, was found at a Quality Inn in Windsor Locks, allegedly avoiding recent appearances for his extensive criminal history of illegal gun possession and drug charges.

Police said they surrounded the hotel and arrested Griffith at the hotel without incident. Police also said Griffiths attempted to conceal his identity while using an alias to avoid facing his prison sentence.

Griffiths received multiple charges including criminal Impersonation and Possessions of a Firearm. Griffiths was also charged with three separate cases of Failure to Appear in court for previous gun and drug charges.

After further investigation, police seized:

  • A handgun with loaded magazine
  • Numerous cells phones
  • Thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry

He was held on bond and appeared in court on Tuesday.
