Woman charged for collecting illegal unemployment benefits

NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) — A former Norwalk woman has been arrested for illegally collecting almost $4,000 in unemployment benefits from the State of Connecticut, while she was working in Maine.

Authorities say 38 year-old Virginia Harris, of Maine, was charged with first degree larceny by defrauding a public community, and charged with unemployment compensation fraud.

Investigations revealed Harris fraudulently collected approximately $3,898 in unemployment benefits from July to Dec. 2015. She had been living is Lisbon Falls, Maine at the time.

Harris is set to appear in court on July 7.
