WATERBURY, Conn. (AP/WTNH) — A 30-year-old woman who had just gotten off a Connecticut transit bus was struck and killed by a car driver who left the scene but later returned and was arrested.
Police in Waterbury said that Mariely Cruz, of Waterbury, was struck shortly before 8 p.m. Monday and died at the scene.
Authorities identified the driver as 32-year-old Kristen Mulcahy.
Police said Mulcahy was already wanted on charges for allegedly assaulting relatives earlier Monday.
She was charged in connection with alleged assaults, but charges related to the bus passenger were not immediately filed.
Officials said Mulcahy had a panic attack and was taken to a hospital.
Her mother declined to comment on the accident Tuesday and said her daughter was still in the hospital.
