The most important and health inducing step that people can take to combat stress is get enough sleep. Reserve at least half an hour a day for exercise. Exercise is good for both your body and mind and has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression and is the single best way to delay Alzheimers disease. Exercise can be a brisk walk, jog, swimming, biking or anything that moves your body and gets your heart rate up for a 30 minute period. Its good for your heart, your bones, your mood and if you are outside you get a nice dose of vitamin D from the sun as a bonus.
Consider cooking from scratch. Spending time in the kitchen with your partner and family, preparing meals based on fresh ingredients is relaxing, fun and healthy. Consider starting a home garden. You get to spend some time outdoors, planting, weeding, and harvesting. Gardens produce large amounts of fresh veggies which translate into healthy diets during the summer. If you can, freeze the bounty to carry it over into the winter.
