Parents, are you worried about what’s going on behind your child’s screen? Cyber-bullying is a growing issue, especially with the rise of smartphones. John Halligan, author of “Ryan’s Story: A Father’s Hard-Earned Lessons about Cyberbullying and Suicide” hopes his story will encourage parents to have strong communication with their children.
John lost his13-year-old son, Ryan, to suicide in 2003. Ryan was one of the first victims of cyberbullying as social media began to emerge.
John asked professional middle school counselor, Emily Dickson of Connecticut, to help him write the book.
Ryan’s story aims to:
• help parents prepare to deal with bullying and cyberbullying of their child.
• help parents be more informed in making decisions regarding access to social media.
• help parents know how to respond if their child is struggling with mental health and or thoughts of suicide.
