Capitol Report: The battle over Native American school mascots

(WTNH) — We touched on the budget implementer and one of the main topics to come out of this one was the battle over schools and Native American mascots.

A provision in the budget will withhold state money that comes from casino slot revenues from districts and towns that refuse to change their mascot names.

For a town like Montville, that could mean a loss of more than 1 million dollars if they don’t drop their “Indian” mascot.
