Celebrating Connecticut’s Moms: Meet Luz Alicea in New Haven

Connecticut Families

Mother’s Day is Sunday, so, we turned to you, our viewers, to help us honor some of Connecticut’s wonderful moms.

We asked folks to submit letters, explaining what makes their moms so special and we received some beautiful responses.  Today, we hear from Francisco Alicea, paying tribute to his mother, Luz, in New Haven.

My mom is the best because she taught me the real meaning of family, even though me and my sister grew up without the love of a dad.

She made sure that even though shes a strong Puerto Rican woman she also took on the role of dad, whether it was putting food on the table or clothes on our backs or even when we came home sad because I was bullied.

She stepped up and for that instant became a super mom and dad at the same time, I know many people have heard this before or some may think it cliche but it’s the truth.

I’m the man I am today because she taught me respect  Hard work and sacrifice, thank you Mama!!

I probably won’t make it to the top choices but if someone reads this to the end I feel I told someone who doesn’t know me that there is someone in new haven who has a real hero, and that’s my Mamita (mom).

Thanks mama for all your sacrifice, God bless you and I love u from the depths of my soul.

We’re celebrating moms all week!  Tune into News 8 at 9am and 5pm.
