Mother’s Day is Sunday, so, we turned to you, our viewers, to help us honor some of Connecticut’s wonderful moms.
We asked folks to submit letters, explaining what makes their moms so special and we received some beautiful responses. Today, we hear from Florette Pursell, paying trubute to her mom, Mary, in New Haven.
It’s hard to not sound bias as I write about why my Mom, Mary Pursell, is the best.
To start, she runs her own business in a largely male-dominated field -insurance – and has been for years – before it was encouraged in society like it is today.
She is fierce and she is confident and she doesn’t let anyone else tell her who she should be or what she should be doing.
Four years ago, after an impactful visit to a homeless shelter, she decided to start her own nonprofit.
She created Linens of Love, a nonprofit that works tirelessly to ensure local homeless shelters are supplied with the bedding and linens they need and that families transitioning out of homelessness.
I swear my mom is Superwoman!
She never does anything for recognition, but this Mother’s Day I would love to give her the chance to really understand the positive impact she has on other people.
That is one of the most important lessons she always instilled in me and my sister- “people may remember what you do, but they will never forget how you make them feel.”
Mom- you make people feel so special, so inspired, and SO thankful each and everyday. We all love you more than words could ever say.
Happy Mother’s Day.
We’re celebrating moms all week! Tune into News 8 at 9am and 5pm.
