Today’s Destination Location is home to a chocolate shop with a twist! Divine Treasures has been serving treats in Manchester for 13 years that just happen to be vegan and gluten free. It’s become a foodie destination for people who don’t always get to enjoy chocolates.
“I would describe it as not being vegan or gluten free, I would describe it as the love of chocolates and i love chocolate,” said owner Diane Wagemann. She says people travel from all over the state and beyond to try Divine Treasures.
“I am actually vegan for a health reason,” said Wagemann, “and I find that doing a gluten free dairy free diet has really taken my disease, which was lupus, to a manageable level and therefore it was very important to me to make chocolates in a way that I could enjoy them.”
It’s not just chocolate; Diane makes ice cream with an almond and cashew base that keeps customers coming back again and again.
Cheryl Bellisle, who has a dairy allery and gluten sensitivity, is a regular customer. “When I came in here three years ago and had my first ice cream cone in 30 years,” she said, “and I danced all the way out of the store.”
“It takes us two days to make,” said Wagemann, “we grind our own nuts, it’s from scratch the ingredients are very pure.”
Once they got the sweets down to a science, they branched out even further. They make a vegan cheese in-house and use it in pizzas, meals and pierogies.
So, what’s the secret to making such popular treats?
“The most basic things is that you have to make sure your ingredients are pure,” said Wagemann. “You have to use the best chocolates.”
