(WTNH)- November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. Many people with this disorder deal with the worry of not knowing when a seizure might strike.
Dr. Erica Schuyler, epileptologist with Hartford Healthcare, came to Good Morning Connecticut at 9 to talk about epilepsy and treatment options.
Schuyler says it is estimated that 60 thousand people in Connecticut alone have epilepsy. She says when people have seizures, they can have convulsions, stare off, or experience different things, which means it can be hard to tell if it is related to epilepsy.
When someone has this disorder, seizures happen at different times and are random. Family history can be relevant or people can develop this from injuries to the brain.
Schuyler says there is treatment for epilepsy, she says its about finding the right medication that works for you and doesn’t cause side affects.
