How to lower your monthly expenses

Good Morning CT at Nine

(WTNH) — Howard Schwartz from the Connecticut Better Business Bureau is helping save you money when it comes to your monthly expenses.

Schwartz says the first thing you want to look at is some of your fixed costs, like insurance. Every couple of years, reassess what you’re paying for insurance. Insurance companies are competitive, and may be offering you a package similar to what you have for less money.

If you find yourself paying high electricity bills, consider getting yourself a Smart Thermostat. The devices will adjust the heat for you, depending on when you leave home and when you return. You can also manage the temperature of your home through any smart device, like an iPhone or iPad.

When it comes to store credit cards, make sure you understand the policies. You might get a deal up front, but then find yourself paying high interest rates.

More money saving tips:

  • Avoid buying just because it’s less expensive
  • Look for alternatives for monthly services
  • Compare credit card options:
