Law enforcement expert Gary MacNamara discusses bill to arm teachers

Good Morning CT at Nine

A controversial school safety bill would allow teachers in Florida to bring guns into the classroom. Executive Director of Public Safety at Sacred Heart University and Retired Police Chief of Fairfield Gary MacNamara discusses the intense training for someone who possesses a firearm.

Police officers train yearly, often times several times a year, with their firearm. MacNamara says they  also train with surrounding communities to ensure they are unified in their tactics, properly identified and trained to act under stressful situations.

MacNamara believes everyone plays a role in school safety, and it should be considered for teachers to continue being trained in reporting suspicious behavior, and their role in a crisis.
