National Volunteer Month: local American Red Cross volunteer shares his story

Good Morning CT at Nine

Steve Skolnick of Simsbury, Regional Disaster Action Team Lead with the American Red Cross, shares his journey of becoming a volunteer.

Skolnick became a volunteer with the Red Cross after seeing Red Cross crews responding to a tornado on TV, about six months before he retired as a volunteer firefighter.

As part of his role with the Red Cross, Skolnick is deployed to natural disasters. He assisted with relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Florence.

As a volunteer, he also is on some of the organizations national teams ran out of Red Cross Headquarters to help with policies, procedures and training materials for volunteers nationwide.
