(WTNH)-The WestFest 2017 community festival will be held on Saturday, September 2 and runs from 11 AM to 6 PM at the West Haven Green.It’s organized by the University of New Haven Mayor’s Advisory Commission whose purpose is to build goodwill, spread mutual awareness, and promote collaboration between the University of New Haven and West Haven communities. WestFest 2017 includes live entertainment, inflatables for the kids, a dozen food trucks/booths, a pie-eating contest, tug-of-war contest, hot shot contest, dunk booth, booths representing dozens of University of New Haven student organizations, local businesses, and organizations. A portion of the proceeds will benefit WHEAT food pantry, a West Haven group that helps families. It’s co-sponsored by the University of New Haven, Mayor’s Advisory Commission, City of West Haven, Watson, Inc., and WHEAT.

Also on the 2nd, Unity Run is taking place at 10 AM on the campus of the University of New Haven and organized in conjunction with the Mayor’s Advisory Commission by the University’s  women’s basketball, track and cross country teams. Entrance is $20 and those interested can sign up at: newhavenchargers.com/unityrun or people can sign up on the day of beginning at 9 AM in Maxcy parking lot at the University. Free shuttles will be provided from the University’s Maxcy parking lot to WestFest at West Haven Green and back all day from 11 AM to 6 PM.
