Jewelry to Detect UV ray Exposure

On-Air

(WTNH) – According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 1 in 5 people are expected to get skin cancer at some point in their lives. With odds that high one local company found a unique way to alert people about UV protection.

  1. Mills Co designed fashionable UV Detection jewelry. The Jewelry is outfitted with a UV Detection Bead, each piece is different but all are designed for the UV bead to “stand out”. When the special bead is exposed to UV Rays, it will turn purple or blue (only one, we use a contrasting color for each piece) and will be lighter with less exposure and darker with higher exposure.

It works as a reminder to be aware about exposure and to probably get out of the sun or re-apply sunblock.
