It’s June! What to buy this month and what to avoid

Stretch Your Dollar

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s the first day of June and with a new month comes new deals to look out for in the stores!

You’ll find some great freebies this month. For example, Friday is National Donut Day and some places like Dunkin Donuts are already gearing up to hand out free donuts. If you’re looking to do some shopping, June has some great deals, you just need to know where to look.

The weather is warming up, which means time to get in shape. June will offer great deals on fitness apparel. Check Sports Authority first, where they are already going out of business sales. Also, the equipment.  Since more people are working out outside, stores are looking to get rid of their indoor exercise inventory.

You may find deals on laptops and computers, but University of New Haven’s Subroto Roy says they’ll be cheaper around back-to-school time or Black Friday. He also suggests holding off on some seasonal items.

“Grills for example, grills you should avoid in June because they’ll be highest in June,” he said.

July will likely offer better deals on patio furniture, but if you haven’t booked a summer getaway yet, that’s something to consider this month.

“Hurricane season is starting in June so the travel deals to the Caribbean would be much cheaper and there will be great deals in June.”

June is National Dairy Month so look for sales in that section of the grocery store. Select tools will be going on sale as we get closer to Father’s Day!

If you haven’t done your spring cleaning, new vacuum models typically come out in June, so it’s a good time to get a deal on the older models.
