Stretch Your Dollar: Black Friday spending

Stretch Your Dollar

Expect more jingle at the cash register.

According to a recent survey by Retail-Me-Not, shoppers plan to spend $60 more on gifts this weekend compared to last year.

78% of those surveyed said they plan to shop this weekend.

In fact, 33% of them plan to kick off their shopping spree on Thanksgiving night.

So what’s on their holiday list? Small electronics tops the list.

That includes items like smart phones, headphones and smart watches.

Clothing is second followed by shoes.

If you’re braving the long lines this weekend, here’s what experts say are the best and worst items to buy.

Avoid furniture and wait to buy it in January when it’s the lowest.

Also, the latest gaming consoles.

The same goes for all the toys on your list. Retail-Me-Not suggests you wait two weeks before Christmas.

For deep discounts, look for sales on these items instead:

Appliances and electronics like computers, phones and TVs are usually heavily discounted – some up to 40% percent off.

Winter gear and sneakers are also on sale.

Experts say now may be the best time to score major discounts on Disigner handbags.
