Gronk prepares to face ex-teammate Blount in big game

Big Game

(WPRI) — A 33-13 Patriots loss is how Madden’s Super Bowl preview game ended as New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski went up against former teammate and current Philadelphia Eagles running back LeGarrette Blount.

“We became really close friends, so when we saw this event when it got brought up, I saw I was going to be facing LeGarrette so I knew it would be cool to do it, to see him again,” explained Gronkowski. “He’s a good friend and we had a blast tonight.”

“I did have seven receptions there. Threw it to myself nine times,” he quipped. “…Blount’s very good at video games.”Related Content: Belichick: Each Super Bowl experience is unique

Good at video games and football, but Blount knows this isn’t a great prediction of the actual game on Sunday.

“This is not a good reflection of what is going to happen on Sunday,” Blount said. “You know Brady’s going to come with his A-game the last game of the season, so it ain’t going to be like that.”

And does Blount hope to see his former teammate on the field?

“Oh, yes, of course,” he said. “You don’t want anybody to sit out, especially because of injury, so I’m hoping he plays and I’m pretty confident he will.”

Gronkowski was not supposed to talk about his game status, however, when he was asked if he expects to play, he said “yes” and he hopes to be cleared of concussion protocol on Wednesday.
