Burrell talks tough choice Kyler Murray had to make

Sports

Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray has declared for the NFL Draft.

He’s projected to be a first round pick.

Murray has already been drafted in the first round of baseball’s draft by the Oakland Athletics.

Only one person before has been a first round pick in two major sports, Hamden’s Scott Burrell.

The Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball and the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets both picked Burrell in the first round.

He had some advice for Murray.

“Well, it’s hard because you love playing both, and you just have to figure out which is going to be best for you as a professional and I picked the sport that I loved most and that’s what you have to do. I think I would’ve lasted longer in baseball, but I enjoyed basketball. I enjoyed the competition of competing against the best players in the world every day and not battling through the minor leagues of baseball to make it to the bigs, so I enjoyed what I was doing,” Burrell said.

Burrell dabbled in baseball for a short time with the Blue Jays.

He eventaully won an NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls.
