Edsall: Freshmen could see time for UConn football next season

Sports

The UConn football team is officially in its offseason, after wrapping up its spring practice a couple of weekends ago.

The Huskies will regroup as a team in August for preseason camp. Head coach Randy Edsall said he had more fun this spring than he did last spring– as he got to work with some of the recruits his staff brought in.

Edsall says when the season starts in late August, don’t be surprised who’s on the field.

“We’re going to have some freshmen that are probably going to come in and play next year, because of where we are from a depth standpoint at certain positions,” Edsall said. “We still won’t be at 85 scholarships next year. We’re still going to need to continue to recruit people that fit what we’re going to be doing.”

Wilbur Cross High School’s Travis Jones is one player who’s drawing rave reviews from Edsall. He likely will be one of those freshmen seeing playing time.
