Jim Calhoun says St. Joseph's Division doesn't matter, dreams do

He built one of the great programs in the history of college basketball.

Now, Hall of Famer Jim Calhoun is going to try and do it again at the University of Saint Joseph.

On Wednesday, the school introduced its lineup of athletic teams, including men’s sports for the first time ever. Saint Joseph used to be an all-women’s college, but went coed in 2017.

Having Calhoun as the face of the school is a huge win for the Blue Jays. Right now he’s in the role of “consultant,” but could eventually become head coach.

Calhoun and assistant Glenn Miller have been out recruiting a team which will start practice on October 15.

“To me, Division 3…4, 7, 1, kind of makes no difference. The game is the game, the kids are the kids, and education is education,” Calhoun said. “You know, they have dreams too. They have great dreams. It doesn’t have to be in the NBA. It doesn’t have to be anyplace except the best you can be.”
