When the Pawtucket Red Sox move to Worcester in 2021, many people probably just assumed the team would be called the Worcester Red Sox or the Woo Sox. But, alas, that may not be the case.

The team Monday invited fans to submit name suggestions for the team.

“We’re eager to hear from fans around Central Massachusetts and all of New England,” said the team’s Executive Vice President/General Manager Dan Rea III, “as we determine the ideal name for the Triple-A affiliate of the World Champion Boston Red Sox in Worcester.”

For the next three weeks, fans will be able to submit their ideas by visiting PolarPark.com or depositing written suggestions in ballot boxes posted around Worcester.

“To Woo or not to Woo, that is the question,” said club President Dr. Charles Steinberg.  “We have heard from those who would like to call the team the WooSox, and we have heard impassioned pleas from others to not call them the WooSox.  So we ask, ‘What’s in a name?’  We hope the flavorful conversation and creative juices flow right through the last drop of gravy at Thanksgiving dinner.”
