Deceased person identified in crash that closed I-91 south in New Haven for several hours


Interstate 91 southbound has reopened in New Haven after a deadly accident closed the highway for several hours on Thursday morning.

The Department of Transportation reports that I-91 southbound was shutdown between exits 7 and 6 after a crash involving two vehicles was reported at 5:43 a.m. 

State Troopers said Mason Stasiak, 30 of Hamden died at Yale New Haven Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. 

The other driver has no apparent injuries.

Stasiak fell asleep while driving. He hit the center barrier and ended up in the right center lane and the other car in that lane slammed into him.

The accident has since been cleared and the highway has reopened to traffic.  

Connecticut State Police say that at around 5:13 a.m., troopers responded to the two vehicle accident  in the area of exit 6.
