SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — State police are seeking witnesses after a man died in a car crash on Interstate 84 late Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, a Ford F250 truck was traveling in the right lane on I-84 Eastbound, west of exit 30, when a Tesla veered across the center lane and collided with the truck just before 4:30 p.m.

The crash caused the driver of the truck to lose control of the car and it traveled across the center lane, left lane, and into the grassy median. The truck continued across the median and rolled-over, collided with the metal beam guardrail in the left shoulder of I-84 Westbound, and came to a final rest in the left shoulder of the left lane. The Tesla came to a final rest in the right shoulder of I-84 Eastbound.

The truck driver, identified as 24-year-old Eliijah Vallier of New Britain, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the Tesla driver, as well as a passenger in the car, were uninjured and denied medical attention.

Both sides of the highway were shut down in the area of Exit 30 while police investigated the crash.

This is an active investigation.

Any witnesses of the crash or anyone with a car equipped with a dashcam who was driving through the area at the time of the crash is urged to contact Trooper Michael Dean at (860) 534-1098 or via email at michael.dean@ct.gov.
