BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) – A woman from New York died in a multi-car crash on Route 8 in Bridgeport Friday afternoon.
Four vehicles were involved in the crash. State Police said a Toyota Corolla was traveling in the left lane on Route 8 southbound as three other vehicles, a KIA Cadenza, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry, were traveling in the right lane near Exit 3.
State Police said the Toyota Camry struck the Nissan Altima that was in front of it, which then caused these vehicles to rotate and the Toyota Camry to hit the passenger side of the KIA, pushing it into the guardrail.
State Police said the Nissan Altima then struck the back of the Toyota Corolla. Police said the driver of the Nissan Altima, identified as 37-year-old Tiffany Benjamin of Rockaway, New York, was pronounced dead on the scene.
One of the other drivers and a passenger in a separate vehicle were taken to local hospitals for minor injuries.
Route 8 southbound has reopened.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Troop G at (203) 696-2500.
