OLD LYME, Conn. (WTNH) — A 52-year-old Darien man died in a car crash on I-95 north Saturday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.

A preliminary report from state police says at around 7:30 a.m. a Honda Accord was stopped in the left lane heading northbound between exits 70 and 71 in Old Lyme. A Kia Stinger traveling behind the vehicle struck the back of the Accord, causing serious damage to both cars.

The Accord’s driver, Michael S. Sansur, was transported to L&M Hospital and died in the hospital. His passenger was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital by Lifestar for serious injuries, according to police.

The driver of the Stinger was transported to the Westbrook Shoreline Clinic to treat minor injuries.

According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, I-95 northbound was closed between exits 70 and 71, and I-95 southbound was closed between exits 71 and 70. The crash occurred just after 7:30 a.m.

The crash is under active investigation. The Connecticut State Police is asking any witnesses to contact Old Lyme Resident State Trooper Matthew Weber at 860-399-2100.

Lanes have since reopened.
