WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A man died following a two-car crash in Wallingford on Tuesday morning. Police responded to the intersection of South Colony Road and South Elm Street around 4:40 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found a driver trapped inside a Mercedes-Benz after it collided with a tractor-trailer. Officers attempted to remove the driver from the car, but it caught on fire.
Wallingford police said the officers extinguished the fire but were unable to gain entry to the car.
The driver of the car, identified as 26-year-old Jesse S. Brown-Guillen of Wallingford, was removed from the car and died at the scene, according to police.
Wallingford police said the investigation revealed that Brown-Guillen was driving westbound when he failed to come to a complete stop and collided with the trailer portion of the tractor-trailer. The collision caused the load on the trailer to shift, and several large pieces of structural steel to spill on the roadway.
The driver of the tractor-trailer has been cooperating with the police.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is being asked to contact Wallingford police.
